Looking at the rules, there's not a lot holding me back from playing either "straight" 2nd Edition (with the generic codex rules, there is pretty rampant power creep in the actual codex releases) or playing with the codex books (although I don't own Tyranids or Chaos), rather than trying to formulate a set of workable fixes for Rogue Trader.
The other option is to strictly have a GM for Rogue Trader to adjudicate rules and set up games.
I'd certainly get a lot more mileage out of the Eldar I just got, plus 2nd Edition has actual rules for playing scouts. Which would let me play both my Marine Scouts and Eldar Scouts.
A Blog dedicated to playing Warhammer 40,000 Rogue Trader (1st edition), 2nd Edition, and 8th edition. Focus on early editions is on collecting and preserving rules as well as recovering models from that era. Modern topics will mostly be about the hobby rather than the game and my efforts to collect and paint a large amount of Space Marines.

I'm toying with the idea of going with Second Edition rather than Rogue Trader.
Here are the reasons:
I own several codex books (Eldar, Ultramarines, Space Wolves, Angels of Death, Imperial Guard), and it would be much easier to allocate my models since list construction is more standardized.
I also have the original 2nd edition "generic" codex books, too (which were considered legal lists throughout 2nd Edition).
The problems?
Well, a number of issues I've written about would disappear. The only real issue is that it's not Rogue Trader. But it's the closest approximation that doesn't require pages and pages of house rules.
What I'm missing?
I think all my tokens for this set got mixed with my Necromunda stuff. I'll have to search the dungeons for them. I have Sustained Fire Dice and the original Artillery Dice, and all the relevant rulebooks and Dark Millenium.
It would also let me field *all* of my recently reacquired Eldar.
Any objections?

Eldar issues
So I've got all these Eldar models, and I've got the WD#127 Army List. Only it makes no real mention of the War Walkers and Dreadnoughts, both of which appeared in earlier issues.
Can I use them legally with the Aspect Warrior list? What was the intent there? The list itself references being able to play "all your existing Eldar models" along with the new ones, yet makes no direct reference to any other lists other than allowing you to add a Harlequin Troupe to your army if you like.
So this gets added to the list of House Rules.
Option A:
The only models allowed in an Aspect Warriors Eldar Army are those appearing in, or referenced in, White Dwarf #127.
Option B:
The points costs for War Walkers and Eldar Dreadnoughts are available and can be used with the list from WD #127.
I don't really see a problem with either option, especially given the fact that until 3rd Edition there weren't any other kinds of vehicles really available for Eldar.
Other issues are related to issues I have with equipping my Space Marines from my earlier posts. The random stat lines generated by both Farseers and Avatars could be problematic, so they should probably be addressed as well.
Option A: Each game the Farseer and the Avatar have their stats randomly generated.
Option B: Use the average die roll for each stat (rounding down) to create a "standard" stat line.
Here I feel Option B is better as it leads to neither an underpowered nor overpowered Avatar or Farseer. I would go with the average rolls for Psychic Points, too. I would leave the random number of Warrior Powers alone, though.

I recently obtained close to 4000 to 5000 points of Eldar, most of it related to White Dwarf #127, which featured the debut of the Rogue Trader Era army list. The cool part? Most of these models were originally mine that I was able to buy back. Really cool.
I have:
Original Avatar, which I believe is lead (rather than pewter)
Here's an example (the paint job is not mine and belongs to Dave Garbe)
http://fc00.deviantart.net/fs42/f/2009/093/6/5/Eldar_Avatar___Classic_by_NPlusPlus.jpg
6 units of Dire Avengers
6 units of Swooping Hawks
6 units of Dark Reapers
2 units of Howling Banshees
1 unit of Striking Scorpions
1 unit of Fire Dragons
3 War Walkers
1 Dreadnought
5 Guardians on Jetbikes
3 squads of Scouts (which would have to be fielded as Guardians, as there were no Scout rules in Rogue Trader for Space Marines *or* Eldar)
1 Guardian Squad with Shuriken Catapults
1 Guardian Squad with Lasguns
4 Dire Avenger Exarchs
3 Fire Dragon Exarchs
2 Striking Scorpion Exarchs
2 Farseers
6 Warlocks
3 Weapon Platforms and crews
I also have several 2nd Edition models
2 Ed. Avatar
2 Jain Zair
2 Maugan Ra
2 Baharroth
Fuegan
Asurmen
Karandras
I have a second Dreadnought that's more in line with 2nd Edition.
The plan right now is to strip the models for repaints (even though some of them represent some of my earliest painting efforts). Once I get them repainted I'll have an opposing force for my Crimson Fists to play against.
Eldar in Rogue Trader didn't really have a lot of access to vehicles, so there's a ton of infantry here. Should be a good match for my Crimson Fists.
